On November 27 2024, the New Combative Sports Act has been proclaimed by our Government and will go into force on December 1st, 2024.
This now gives the Manitoba Combative Sports Commission the authority to regulate and sanction Amateur Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing & Muay Thai.
Manitoba now becomes the 5th province to regulate Amateur MMA.This new law may give the MCSC the opportunity to bring in youth combat sports in the future. We can now develop Amateur athletes in a safe manner, and they will have a platform to compete, and the ability to eventually turn professional.
Royal Assent of Bill 40, the Manitoba Combative Sports Amendment Act happened on May 30, 2023.
It has been a long process to get to this point, and it all started with this petition in 2018

But we have not come to the final destination. What does this mean for Combat Sports in Canada?
Manitoba will set the model for Amateur Combat Sports that all of Canada needs to follow. Winnipeg is the geographical center of Canada, and Winnipeg will very soon become the Hub for Combat Sports in Canada.
